Body-Body to Mind-Mind – A Performative Dialogue in the Barbershop

Join us for a unique and immersive workshop that transforms the traditional barbershop into a space for art, dialogue, and reflection.

The barbershop has long been a communal space for interaction, storytelling, and cultural exchange. It is where everyday life intersects with broader social and political discussions, offering a lens into self-identity and attitudes toward the body and its care. Through tools like mirrors, scissors, and razors, the barbershop becomes a stage for cultural praxis and a reflection on "what is the body."

As part of the Fragile Strength project, this workshop, led by an artist-barber, will engage participants in a performative and interactive communal experience. It will explore:

  • Body and Mind Dialogue: Learn ways to express and connect with your body and mind through collective discussions and artistic exercises.

  • Cultural Narratives: Delve into the cultural significance of barbers in rituals and traditions, from weddings to spiritual cleansings.

  • Body Cleansing and Mental Health: Discuss the importance of hygiene, self-esteem, and body image, especially for men, in the context of mental health.

  • Masculinity Redefined: Reflect on cultural narratives that shape masculinity and challenge toxic norms, emphasizing delicate resilience as strength.

This workshop is a space for participants to explore masculinity, vulnerability, and mental health while celebrating the nuanced strength that defines us all. Through storytelling, cultural exploration, and performative acts, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of self and society.
