The Coldest Winter I Ever Spent

It's not about finding instant solutions, it's about being heard, valued and understood.

Date: 19th July, 2025

Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Venue: The Minories, 74 High St. CO1 1UE

Inspired by the moving memoir The Coldest Winter I Ever Spent by Ann Jacobus, this Talk and Listen session invites you into a safe, reflective space to explore mental health through vulnerability, empathy, and community connection. The book, which chronicles a young woman’s journey of survival, grief, and healing, aligns well with the heart of the Fragile Strength project, which is that true strength often lies in our most fragile moments.

During this session, we’ll hold guided discussions centred on themes of emotional resilience, personal transformation, and support systems that help us through life’s darkest seasons. Through shared stories and active listening, attendees will explore how to cope with isolation, inner turmoil, and the pressure of appearing “strong.”

This session isn’t about finding instant solutions; it’s about being heard, valued, and understood.

Why attend? Because no one should have to navigate mental health challenges alone. Whether you're here to share, listen, or simply sit in solidarity, this session is for you.

Come as you are. Leave feeling seen. Secure your spot now and be part of this important conversation.

This event is part of Fragile Strength, our ongoing project that explores vulnerability, masculinity, and mental wellbeing through community-driven arts and dialogue. Throughout June and July, we’re also hosting a series of creative workshops, artist talks, and film screenings, including:
