About the Artist

Krishna Prakash Vasant is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in the Surpur miniature painting tradition of India. Working primarily in monochromatic ink, he creates detailed compositions that bring together divine figures, cosmic battles, and stories from traditional and mythological narratives such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas.

Art Practice

His line work is intricate and precise, capturing gods and goddesses with human emotions, gestures, and ornamentation. By drawing on temple sculptures, courtly miniature aesthetics, and illustrated manuscripts, he preserves the essence of these ancient stories while presenting them in a way that speaks to a contemporary audience.

Based in the Surpur region, Krishna Prakash explores cycles of creation, decay, and memory through his art. His practice contributes to Ananta Katha, the endless flow of stories that shape India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Each stroke carries centuries of storytelling while opening space for new interpretations, making his work both a preservation of tradition and a reflection of modern sensibilities.

Over the past three decades, his work has reached audiences across India, from solo and group exhibitions in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi to historic art spaces in Bengaluru and Chennai. He has also participated in major art fairs, bringing his Surpur miniature inspired ink drawings to a wider audience. This journey, both in practice and exposure, reflects not only his dedication but also the enduring resonance and relevance of his art.
