Private View: Desire without Apology

13 February 2026

The meaning of a woman’s body is constantly rewritten, shaped by where she stands, who is watching, and what society expects of her. In some spaces, it is treated as a private secret; in others, as a public symbol to be controlled, consumed, or judged. Too often, these identities are imposed before a woman can speak for herself.

In this exhibition, Sheli Gupta works invites us into a world woven through thread. For her, a line is not merely visual, it is tactile and emotional. It can feel like skin, carry unspoken memory, or trace the invisible connections between body, history, and desire. Her work centres the women desires that is frequently silenced or overlooked, giving form to what is usually left unsaid.

Rooted in history, her practice echoes the legacy of the Tawaifs, women once celebrated for their artistry and cultural influence, yet later reduced and erased by moral and social narratives.Through thread, Sheli reclaims the female body from being an object of gaze and restores it as a subject with agency, feeling, and voice.

This private view is more than an introduction to the exhibition. Meet the artist Sheli Gupta, engage with the curators, and experience the exhibition in an intimate setting.

We look forward to welcoming you.
